How might we help visitors at OU’s historic North Oval?

The challenge was to create an outdoor intervention for a historic part of the University of Oklahoma’s campus. Because this area is also home to the University’s Visitor Center, it is an important part of many visitors’ first impression!

How does the site function now?

Based on survey results, our team determined this area had opportunity to grow in a few key areas: positive brand impression, ease of navigation, and meeting visitors’ needs.

What are some of the pain points?

To get an idea of how people used the site, we created a user journey diagram. Through exploring a typical visitor’s needs, wants, and feelings, we discovered ways to ensure a great visitor experience while promoting the history and current events unique to this location! A system of high-tech solutions, in addition to improved signage, would help alleviate major pain points. Guests could spend less time worrying about parking and more time enjoying the beautiful, vibrant campus.

Kiosk on OU campus

Kiosk at your service, rain or shine!

As part of our design solution, we envisioned a kiosk that would help visitors find top destinations and learn more about this historic part of the University. We incorporated a static map to the left of the touch screen so that visitors could always access the map, even in the event of a digital malfunction or power outage.

Not just for first-time visitors…

The kiosk would not only be useful to visitors. New students, visiting lecturers, and seasoned professors could all make use of this high-tech directory. Want to learn more about that sculpture? How about see this week’s events? Or maybe you’d just like to make sure you’re headed for the right building. Whatever you need, this kiosk has you covered!
